Markham, CANADA – The Srinarayanathas Foundation is pleased to announce its support for the Digital Inclusion Challenge 2020: Embracing Digital Education for All to be held virtually from October 23 – November 1, 2020.
Hosted by Convergence.Tech, a digital transformation company based in Toronto, Canada focused on leveraging the power of digital to transform education, this year’s Digital Inclusion Challenge aims to use COVID-19 as a catalyst for change and seeks to create new technology solutions for the education sector which will address mental health, digital wellness, equity, and diversity issues. Student teams from secondary and post-secondary institutions around the world will participate in this hackathon-styled event to ideate and create solutions based around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #4: Quality Education. Inspired by nearly a century-old tradition of philanthropy, the Srinarayanathas Foundation supports a wide variety of causes in Canada and around the world. Education is a key focus of the foundation having previously supported the Endowed Chair in Tamil Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough, several educational initiatives in Sri Lanka, and the work of one of its related entities – Computek College, a leading private career college in Ontario that has been providing practical learning in business, healthcare, and technology for newcomers, immigrants, and refugees in the Greater Toronto Area for nearly 30 years.
As the CEO of Computek College, I meet newcomers every day for whom education is the key to their new lives and livelihoods in Ontario, Canada. This is why I was drawn to this year’s Digital Inclusion Challenge – as I strongly believe that technology is the greatest tool we have in ensuring everyone’s democratic and equitable access to quality education.

Our roots are in education, so we have run multiple successful challenges focused on blockchain and mental health in Canada, Afghanistan and Australia and have seen the opportunities and learning experiences they evoke for students. COVID-19 and the disruption it has caused to the education system demands a global organization of efforts focused on easing the impact and challenges of the overnight transformation the education sector has been subject to. We firmly believe students should have a voice in the solutions to consider and develop. Hence, we are running this global challenge and the response has been nothing short of overwhelmingly exciting – over 120 teams from 21 countries and counting. Clearly education accessibility is an issue, and our youth are ready to take on the challenge. Muraly’s kind donation sponsoring the winning prize could almost be a life changer for some students!
